Edouard Duval — Brut d'Eulalie

Brut d'Eulalie

Edouard Duval | Brut

Sometimes the most exciting stories hide behind simple labels, like here with the – Brut d'Eulalie.

Don't confuse this with the large house Duval-Leroy. This is pure "Grower Champagne" from Domaine Sainte Eulalie in Bligny (Côte des Bar).

Edouard Duval has created something special here: A monopole estate with 28 hectares of contiguous vineyard land, which is extremely rare in Champagne.

The "Brut d'Eulalie" is the heart of the house. A powerful blend dominated by Pinot Noir (about 77–80%) from the upper slopes of the estate, complemented by Chardonnay (about 20–23%) from the "L'Épicéa" parcel. What's special: A considerable portion (almost 30%) of the base wines are aged in Burgundian demi-muids (large wooden barrels), which gives the wine wonderful texture.

On the nose, the terroir is immediately present: iodine-rich limestone paired with fresh lemon, cherry, and a hint of peach. With some air, complex notes of raspberry and fresh meringue emerge. On the palate it's creamy, almost melting, with juicy pomelo fruit and a beautifully salty, mineral finish.

A champagne that perfectly balances power and elegance and shows how much potential lies in the marl soils of the Côte des Bar.
