Les Crayères 2020
Vauversin | Brut | Vintage 2020
Do you know that moment after a warm summer day?
When it suddenly starts raining. Quietly. Gently. And you catch that unmistakable scent – damp, mineral, almost cool.
Not from the asphalt of the street, but from stones. Natural stone that's still warm from the day. And now being moistened by the rain.
That's exactly the image that flashes through my mind with the first sip. Crystal clear, completely present.
A champagne that tastes like summer rain on stone – of chalk, coolness, clarity.
Les Crayères 2020 from Vauversin – a single-varietal Chardonnay from a single parcel in Oger, vinified without Dosage, with an uncompromising signature.
And then there was suddenly this intense, almost smoky tobacco note. Elegant, not loud – but distinct. A hint of cigar box, almost balsamic. Surprising. Fascinating.
I deliberately tasted the champagne completely pure – without food, without pairing. Just a simple glass. And I'll be honest: it demands attention. But when you engage with it, it tells a complex, mineral story that lingers.
Served at about 8–9 °C in a Fatto a Mano glass – a glass that really shows what's inside such character wines.
️ Has anyone ever tried a champagne with tobacco notes? Or experienced this stony freshness? I'm curious if you also know such associations
Tasting Notes
