Vauversin — Or d'Âge 2019

Or d'Âge 2019

Vauversin | Brut Nature | Vintage 2019

I've had the pleasure of tasting three champagnes from Vauversin in recent weeks – and although they're all based on 100% Chardonnay from Oger, they couldn't have been more different.

Orpair 2019 Approachable, fruit-forward, lively. A champagne that opens immediately – with bright fruit, fine bubbles, and precise freshness. Perfect as an introduction, aperitif, or with light dishes. Charming without detours.

Les Crayères 2020 Concentrated, mineral, with depth. A real terroir experience: chalky, salty, precise. What particularly surprised me was the intense tobacco note that showed itself unexpectedly yet perfectly harmoniously integrated. Not an everyday champagne – but one that demands space and attention.

and Today...

Or d'Âge Aged, complex, quiet. A contemplative character – with structure, depth, and mature elegance. Made from a Réserve Perpétuelle, aged in oak barrels, without malolactic fermentation, Brut Nature.

In the glass it shows multiple layers: • Citrus peel, roasted almonds, a touch of brioche • Noticeably chalky on the finish, with salty length • With some air, a fine oxidative depth unfolds, reminiscent of aged Chardonnay – subtle but perceptible

A champagne that doesn't want to please, but rather connects depth with clarity. For me, an ideal glass to enjoy on its own – no pairing, no menu, just a quiet evening and a very attentive Chardonnay.

All three bear the signature of Laurent Vauversin – organic, clear, uncompromising. And impressively show how different Chardonnay can be when given time, terroir, and finesse.

️ Who among you knows the house Vauversin? And what experiences have you had with Chardonnay from Oger?

Tasting Notes

An aged, complex champagne from the Réserve Perpétuelle with citrus peel, roasted almonds, and brioche notes. Chalky-salty finish with fine oxidative depth reminiscent of aged Chardonnay.
