Les Scellées Brut
A. Lété | Brut
Yesterday I had a champagne in my glass that shows what perfect craftsmanship in the Vallée de la Marne can achieve: The "Les Scellées" Brut from A. Lété.
While many cuvées in this region are heavily influenced by Meunier, A. Lété takes a different, very elegant approach here. The blend is led by a substantial 70% Chardonnay, supported by 15% each of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. What makes this champagne a real experience, though, are the generous 50% reserve wines that flow into the cuvée, as well as 36 months of aging on lees.
On the nose it immediately shows wonderful complexity: Lightly smoky and biscuity notes meet almond (orgeat), barley sugar, and preserved fruits. On the palate it then unfolds a gorgeous freshness, strongly marked by blood orange and vineyard peach. Elegant, fresh, and incredibly delicious!
As with the entire A. Lété line, you can feel the absolute dedication to detail here too: Every single bottle is hand-riddled (remuage manuelle) and the dosage of 7 g/l (Brut) is perfectly balanced with a homemade liqueur from their own reserve wines and cane sugar.
A champagne that shines as an aperitif, but should also pair beautifully with salmon carpaccio or quickly seared scallops.
Tasting Notes
Complex on the nose with smoky, biscuity notes, almond, barley sugar, and preserved fruits. Fresh on the palate with blood orange and vineyard peach, elegant and balanced.
