Champagne Moussé — Eugène (Perpétuelle) 2003

Eugène (Perpétuelle) 2003

Champagne Moussé | Extra Brut | Vintage 2003

Do you remember the L'Orage I posted in early November?

Do you remember the L'Orage I posted in early November? I'm taking a deeper look into the repertoire of and opening a bottle that carries the true heritage of the house: the Eugène (Perpétuelle). Named after Cédric Moussé's great-great-grandfather, this champagne is the complete opposite of the pure Chardonnay L'Orage. Here we are at the epicenter of Meunier – in Cuisles. And right from opening, you notice that sustainability here isn't a marketing gimmick, but lived out down to the smallest detail. Instead of the usual aluminum capsule, a paper sleeve wraps around the cork – a strong statement about environmental footprint. And the best part: on the inside there's a hidden message that perfectly frames the moment. What makes this wine so fascinating is the "Réserve Perpétuelle" system. Since 2003, wine has been added here every year, giving the Eugène a depth and consistency you can literally taste. On the nose it's immediately present: red fruits, a hint of white peach and that typical Meunier juiciness, paired with fine spice. On the palate it shows incredible precision, but with a soft, almost generous texture. Where the L'Orage celebrated the salty energy of Chardonnay, the Eugène celebrates the spicy fruit and power of Meunier. It's the perfect continuation of my journey through the world of Moussé – from the exception to the soul of the house.
