Daniel Leclerc — Cuvée Gabin Brut

Cuvée Gabin Brut

Daniel Leclerc | Extra Brut

Sometimes you open a bottle and immediately know: this works. That's exactly how it is with the Cuvée Gabin Brut from Daniel Leclerc. A champagne that convinces right away – powerful, structured, and with fine elegance. But where does the name actually come from?

I've been in touch with Gabin from the winery – is that coincidence or was the cuvée named after him?

Tasting notes:

Nose: Fine and delicate aromas, melted wood, brioche, roasted orange peel. Palate: Creamy, with notes of dried apricot, harmonious and complex. Finish: Long, with an elegant structure that develops over time.

Brut or Extra Brut?

This bottle has a dosage of 4 g/l – that's right on the borderline between Brut and Extra Brut. So why the Brut designation? Often the winemaker decides based on the overall picture, not just numbers. And here it fits: Despite the low dosage, the champagne doesn't seem overly dry, but remains wonderfully balanced.

The right temperature makes the difference:

The first sips at about 45°F – pleasantly fresh, but still somewhat restrained. With each degree warmer, it becomes rounder, more complex, more open. At 50–54°F, the brioche and apricot notes come through much more clearly. A small difference with big impact.

Tasting Notes

A powerful 100% Chardonnay from the Côte des Bar with creamy texture, brioche and apricot notes, and elegant structure. Shows its maturity while remaining lively and balanced.
