Domaine Alimar: Nos Terres Amoureuses 2021

The Cuvée

Behind Domaine Alimar stands the Limar family from La Neuville-aux-Larris, a village in the Vallée de la Marne. Alexis Limar, together with Jeanne, makes grower champagne here with a clear vision: precise, lean, uncompromisingly honest. Spontaneously fermented, unfined, unfiltered, aged long on the lees and generally very lightly dosed, often with no dosage at all.

Nos Terres Amoureuses takes this idea to the extreme. A Brut Nature from one hundred percent Meunier, grown on a south-facing parcel. Fermented in stainless steel with natural yeasts, then the wine ages for a good three years on the lees before being bottled without any dosage whatsoever.

This creates a champagne that shows Meunier from its delicate, almost fragile side: bright fruit of pear and mirabelle, white blossoms, a hint of orange zest and almond, plus a chalky texture and a saline pull that makes the wine longer than the first sip promises. Precision over power.

My Tastings

The Nos Terres Amoureuses was somehow special. Particularly good, but also not quite "easy."

Alexis (and Jeanne) Limar work in La Neuville-aux-Larris, with a focus on precise, lean champagnes: spontaneously fermented, unfined, unfiltered, aged long on the lees, and generally rather lightly dosed.

Nos Terres Amoureuses is uncompromisingly built on Meunier, from a south-facing parcel in the Vallée de la Marne. Fermented in stainless steel with natural yeasts, then aged just over three years on the lees and completely without dosage.

Aromatically, I got very bright, precise notes: pear and mirabelle, some white blossoms, plus a hint of orange zest and almond. On the palate then dry and very clear, with a slightly chalky texture and this fine, saline pull that makes the wine longer than you'd think from the first sip. And yes, that "wet stone" comes through here again too.
