Brut Nature

Piot Sevillano | Brut Nature

11 bottles from the advent calendar, divided into 3 flights, tasted in one day.

Not as a classic tasting, but as a deliberate comparison: same temperature, same order, same glasses – to understand how large the stylistic differences really are within a single house.

For Flight 1, it was all about purism, freshness and structure. Four champagnes from the calendar, all on the more tension-focused side, tasted in parallel, directly next to each other.

Setup: Tasted as a pair, in parallel in
– Set 1: Gold Edition, – Set 2: Standard Edition (same shape, different weight – no glass study, but same foundation).

The bottles:

Brut Nature Taut, clear, spicy. Zero dosage, full tension. My wife immediately thought apple vinegar & balsamic — uncompromisingly dry. -> 70 % Meunier · 15 % Pinot Noir · 15 % Chardonnay · 0 g/l · Brut Nature

Extra Brut Fraîcheur de Coteau Fresh, lightly spicy, beautiful copper color. Compared to the Brut Nature it seemed rounder, almost with sweetness in the finish. -> 85 % Meunier · 15 % Chardonnay · 4 g/l · Extra Brut

Cuvée Rebelle Exotic, fruity, clear dosage jump. Interesting: The second glass (with sediment) was noticeably cloudy and seemed "must-like" — not at all for my wife, even though she loves Chardonnay. -> 100 % Chardonnay · 10 % wood · 6 g/l · unfiltered / minimally filtered - hence the cloudiness.

Cuvée Interdite Significantly rounder than everything before. My wife called it "praline": soft, seemingly sweet, but complex. For us it felt like two different worlds compared to the Brut Nature. -> 50 % Chardonnay (15 % wood) · 40 % Meunier · 10 % Pinot Noir · 7,2 g/l

Tasting Notes

Flight 1 of a comparative tasting with four tension-focused champagnes: The Brut Nature shows itself taut and uncompromisingly dry, the Extra Brut Fraîcheur de Coteau rounder with light spice, the Cuvée Rebelle exotic-fruity, and the Cuvée Interdite soft and praline-like complex.
