Brut Suprême 2019

Sweet melon, salty ham, and a hint of Côte d'Azur in the glass.

Sweet melon, salty ham, and a hint of Côte d'Azur in the glass. The evening was one of those evenings where you don't need much: a few slices of Serrano, ripe cantaloupe melon, nothing more. With it: a bottle, Brut Suprême, whose turquoise label looks more like yacht than terroir. And that's exactly the point: This champagne doesn't want to shout loudly about origin, but about sun, pool & style. Less winemaker philosophy, more lifestyle in a glass. But hey: it was solid. 100% Côte d'Azur attitude. Fruity, soft, easy to drink. Fine sweetness, some brioche, a hint of white flowers. No great character, but quite a charming companion. By the way: Royal Riviera was awarded a gold medal in the "First Date" category at the Glass of Bubbly Awards in 2019. What does that mean? A champagne that makes an impression: accessible, charming, stylish. No big drama, but a likeable performance. And perhaps exactly what a first glass should sometimes be. Conclusion: Not every champagne needs to be profound. Some just want to look good, please without complications, and deliver exactly that. And this was exactly such a moment. A plate, a glass, a sunset, it works.
