Domaine Vincey — Coin Gris

Coin Gris

Domaine Vincey | Blanc de Blancs

The "Coin Gris" from Domaine Vincey is a 100% Chardonnay from the parcel of the same name (Lieu-dit) in the heart of the Grand Cru village of Oger. What makes it special: The vines here were planted way back in 1954! The soils consist of a fascinating mix of brown clay and pure chalk, which gives the wine incredible depth and texture.

The vinification is pure craftsmanship: spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, 12 months aging on the lees in French oak barrels, no fining, no filtration, and minimal sulfur addition.

The estate of Marine and Quentin Vincey in Oger (now in its 8th generation, but with a completely fresh approach) is currently one of the most exciting addresses in Champagne. They work biodynamically, completely naturally and with extreme finesse. Their focus is on pure single-parcel and vintage champagnes that bring the Terroir into the glass unadorned.

In the glass, this wine shows extremely precise and vibrant character. On the nose you immediately get white flowers, lemon zest, crisp pear and a fine, chalky minerality, paired with delicate toast and brioche notes from the wood. On the palate it's structured, incredibly salty and pulls incredibly long. Perfect for purists like me :)

For this wine I deliberately chose my new Zalto No. 2 (Universal) glasses. A champagne with so much depth, fine wood influence and such complex notes simply needs enough room to really prove itself.

Tasting Notes

Extremely precise and vibrant champagne with white flowers, lemon zest, crisp pear and chalky minerality, complemented by delicate toast and brioche notes. On the palate structured, incredibly salty with a long finish.
