Péhu Guiardel & Fils
I've tasted 3 Champagnes from Péhu Guiardel & Fils — enough to form a solid impression. The house is based in the Aube / Côte des Bar, Montagne de Reims, works with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and shows a clear signature in their range.
Pehu Guiardel is a producer who connects two of Champagne's most interesting regions: the Aube in the south and the Montagne de Reims in the heart. The Aube, often referred to as the Cote des Bar, was long the stepchild of Champagne — too far from Reims and Epernay, too rural, too unknown. Yet some of the best Pinot Noir terroirs in the entire appellation are located here. The Kimmeridge limestone soils of the Aube resemble those in nearby Chablis and give the wines a mineral character that clearly differs from the chalk of the Cote des Blancs.
What impresses me about Pehu Guiardel: They make independent Champagnes from both regions and don't try to level out the different terroirs in an assemblage. The Blanc de Blancs from Les Riceys (Aube) tastes completely different from what you know from the Cote des Blancs — more open, warmer, more approachable. And the Blanc de Noirs shows the powerful side of Pinot Noir from these southern sites.
The house's philosophy is artisanal and down-to-earth. No big marketing budgets, no fancy bottle designs, no social media hype. Instead: clean work in the vineyard, respectful treatment of terroir, and honest Champagnes without disguise.
Terroir and Location
The Champagnes from Péhu Guiardel & Fils come from the Aube / Côte des Bar, Montagne de Reims. The Montagne de Reims is known for powerful Pinot Noir and structured Champagnes.
The dual anchoring in Aube and Montagne de Reims gives the house a palette that many small producers don't have. The Aube brings warmth, ripeness, and fruity approachability. The Montagne de Reims delivers structure, depth, and tannin-driven seriousness. Together, they create a range that represents both worlds.
The Range
Péhu Guiardel & Fils offers 3 different cuvées that I was able to try. In the program: Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs. A focused range that puts quality over quantity.
The Cuvées in Detail
Blanc de Blancs
Straightforward Chardonnay from Les Riceys with floral freshness and a lively, clean structure. Open and friendly in the glass. Highlights: floral, fresh, straightforward, lively.
Les Riceys in the Aube is known for its Rose des Riceys, but the Chardonnay from there also has character. This Blanc de Blancs shows a different facet than the mineral-chalky representatives of the Cote des Blancs: warmer, more floral, with an open-hearted nature that immediately appeals. Not a Champagne for analytical tasting, but one for spontaneous enjoyment.

Blanc de Noirs
A powerful and fresh Champagne with strong structure that perfectly balances the heat of spicy dishes. Multi-layered and characterful. Highlights: powerful, fresh, strong structure, 100% Pinot Noir.
The Blanc de Noirs is the highlight of the range for me. 100% Pinot Noir, powerful yet with enough freshness not to seem heavy. The fact that it balances spicy dishes shows its versatility at the table. Many Blanc de Noirs from the Aube are one-dimensionally fruit-driven — this one has edges without being demanding.
My tip: With Asian cuisine with some heat — the Champagne catches the spice and counters with freshness and structure.

Brut Origine
Red fruit and a hint of brioche shape the nose, soft on the palate with enough freshness. An approachable, uncomplicated Champagne without grand pretensions. Highlights: red fruit, brioche, soft, fresh.
The Brut Origine is the entry level — and an honest one. It makes no secret of what it is: an approachable Champagne for everyday drinking that doesn't seek grand revelations but simply wants to taste good. The red fruit and brioche notes reveal the Pinot Noir component, while the softness on the palate makes it an ideal aperitif.

Conclusion
Pehu Guiardel is a producer you should have on your radar if you want to explore Champagne beyond the big names. The combination of Aube and Montagne de Reims makes the range more versatile than many small producers, and the artisanal quality is solid. Not a house for the display case, but one for the dinner table.
