Prologue Extra Brut

Sometimes you have an expectation about a champagne – and then get surprised. That was exactly the case with the - Prologue Extra Brut. A Pinot Noir-driven Grand Cru champagne where I expected more warmth and depth. But instead, it presented itself with a freshness and clarity that made me curious.

What makes this champagne special:

Long lees aging – fine perlage & complex aromas. Extra Brut dosage – emphasizes clarity & minerality. Grand Cru grapes from Verzenay & Verzy – two of the best Pinot Noir sites in Champagne.

Golden reflections, elegant perlage. Green apples, citrus fruits, brioche & a hint of smokiness. Crisp, mineral-driven, with saline freshness & long finish.

Spontaneous discovery during tasting:

After the first glass, I felt the need to try the champagne from a different glass. First in the , which emphasized the Pinot Noir notes and made the champagne seem heavier. But somehow I had the feeling there was more freshness hiding in there. So I tried it from the No. 4 – and was amazed.

Eisch Glass: → Emphasizes Pinot Noir notes, makes the champagne heavier & more complex. → Makes it seem rounder, but slightly dampens the freshness.

Josephinen No. 4: → Brings freshness & mineral notes much more prominently to the fore. → The perlage seems livelier, the champagne more precise.

Tasting Notes

A surprisingly fresh and crisp Pinot Noir-driven Grand Cru champagne with vibrant minerality and saline freshness. Shows green apples, citrus fruits, brioche and a hint of smokiness with a long finish.
