Champagne Duval-Leroy

Champagne Duval-Leroy — 165 Years in Grand Cru Vertus

Champagne Duval-Leroy is a Négociant-Manipulant based in Vertus on the Côte des Blancs, founded in 1859. Today Carol Duval-Leroy leads the Maison – she is the first and only woman appointed President of the Association Viticole Champenoise. The three sons Julien, Charles and Louis are gradually taking on responsibility in the succession.

History

The Maison's roots go back to 1859, when Duval-Leroy was founded in Vertus. Around 60 years later, circa 1920, the house launched the Fleur de Champagne Premier Cru – a cuvée that has been a permanent part of the range ever since and now has over 100 years under its belt.

The Maison positioned itself early as an innovation driver: It was the first Champagne house to be certified under ISO 9002, and later received triple certification for food safety (IFS/BRC/ISO 22000).

The 2008 vintage marked a turning point: The exceptional harvest became the basis for several prestige cuvées, including the Cuvée M.O.F., developed in collaboration with the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France Sommeliers.

In 2024, Carol Duval-Leroy assumed the presidency of the Association Viticole Champenoise – as the first woman in this role. At the same time, the generational transition began: The three sons are following in their mother's footsteps and gradually taking on responsibility.

Viticulture & Sustainability

Duval-Leroy is certified HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) and has introduced the Brut Biologique AB, the first organically certified Brut cuvée in the portfolio (Ecocert FR-BIO-01).

The Maison employs a démarche oeno-climatisme – an oeno-climatic approach that actively integrates viticulture and environmental conditions. This specifically includes a photovoltaic system, rainwater recovery, thermal and acoustic insulation through a green facade, as well as a range of other measures that reduce the ecological footprint.

The list of certifications is long: Beyond HVE and AB, the Maison and its processes carry the ISO 9002, ISO 22000, IFS and BRC seals – a rare degree of formal verification in Champagne.

Vinification

Production takes place predominantly in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is carried out completely, as documented with the Millésime 2008. Dosage moves within the classic Brut range, typically 6–8 g/l.

The vinification philosophy is oriented toward finesse, lightness and freshness, with the stated goal of carrying terroir and 150 years of innovation into a sustainable future. Duval-Leroy actively seeks dialogue with new actors in gastronomy and develops cuvées like the Cuvée M.O.F. in close coordination with sommeliers.
