Champagne Doyard

Champagne Doyard is based in the Premier Cru village of Vertus at the southern tip of the Côte des Blancs. The family has been cultivating vines here since the 17th century and has been bottling under their own name since 1927. Today Guillaume Doyard runs the roughly ten hectare Chardonnay estate together with his father Yannick Doyard.

Vignoble & Terroir

The heart of the estate lies in Vertus, with additional Chardonnay parcels in Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs like Avize, Le Mesnil, Cramant and Oger, all premier terroirs. For the Cuvée Révolution, only vines over 40 years old are used. A showpiece is the walled Clos de l'Abbaye, half a hectare of old Chardonnay planted in 1956, which is made with only about 2 g/l dosage.

Vinification

For the Révolution Blanc de Blancs, Doyard works with a split vinification: 50% of the wines age in used Burgundy barrels, the other half in stainless steel tanks. About 20% of the cuvée undergoes malolactic fermentation. The dosage is 0 g/l, Brut Nature.

The Cuvées in Detail

Révolution Blanc de Blancs

The Révolution is Doyard's Blanc de Blancs from four Grand Cru sites of the Côte des Blancs, vinified half in wood, half in stainless steel. 78 months on lees, no dosage. Brilliant gold in color, aromas of apricot, peach, spices and chamomile. Rich on the palate with nectarine, melon and roasted macadamia, creamy texture.
