Apollonis: Monodie 2013

The Cuvée

Apollonis | Blanc de Noirs | Vintage 2013

The Monodie is the top of the range at Champagne Apollonis: a single-varietal Meunier from old vines planted in 1942 by Michel Loriot's grandfather. The name tells you what it's about. "Monodie" means monophonic song: one Cru, one grape variety, one voice. Michel Loriot brings the Meunier here to its highest level, made as an Extra Brut so that nothing masks the fruit. On top of that comes over twelve years of cellar aging, which gives the wine its depth.

Tasting Notes

Juicy, concentrated, and structured. The long aging on the lees has given the fruit noticeable depth: a fruity, juicy profile that stays round and approachable despite the low Extra Brut Dosage. Tasted alongside homemade pizza sticks, a pairing that sounds absurd on paper and precisely for that reason shows how uncomplicated an old vintage Meunier can be.
