Champagne Aspasie: Blanc de Blancs Brut

Champagne Aspasie: Blanc de Blancs Brut

The Cuvée

Champagne Aspasie is a family-run estate from Brouillet, high up in the Vallée de l'Ardre, run by Vincent in what is now the fifth generation. The cool region is actually a stronghold of Pinot Meunier, but Aspasie impressively proves with this Blanc de Blancs that fantastic Chardonnay also grows on their soils. The house works organically and is AB, HVE and VDC certified.

The patience is remarkable: one hundred percent Chardonnay from a single Cru, harvested from old vines, gets a full 60 months, that's five years, on the lees before disgorgement, and that with only minimal sulfur addition. In the glass, the wine shows extremely fresh and purist: an almost maritime breeze of iodine-rich limestone, fine acacia blossoms and fresh lemon, on the palate a precise, lively acidity with salty, mineral finish.

My Tastings

With the Blanc de Blancs Brut from Aspasie, I have a really exciting exotic here.

This Blanc de Blancs consists of 100% Chardonnay from a single Cru, harvested from old vines (Vieilles Vignes). What always impresses me about Aspasie is the patience: The wine gets a full 60 months (that's 5 years!) time on the lees before it's disgorged. In addition, bottling is done with only minimal sulfur addition.

In the glass, this Blanc de Blancs shows extremely fresh and purist. On the nose you immediately have an almost maritime breeze: notes of iodine-rich limestone, fine acacia blossoms and fresh lemon. On the palate it develops a precise, lively acidity, which is rounded off by a wonderfully salty, mineral finish.
