Rémi Georgeton: Blanc de la Montagne 2023

Rémi Georgeton: Blanc de la Montagne 2023

The Cuvée

Rémi Georgeton's Blanc de la Montagne is something special: a Blanc de Blancs whose Chardonnay doesn't come from the classic Côte des Blancs, but from the Montagne de Reims, that Premier-Cru area usually associated with Pinot Noir. This gives the wine its own, more earthy character.

It needs a bit of temperature to open up: still closed at around seven degrees, a few degrees warmer and it unfolds perfectly. On the nose, lime, green apple, some white bread and a cool, herbal freshness that develops with air into mint, apple skin and a slightly earthy tone, plus the scent of moist chalky soil. On the palate, surprisingly soft and fleshy, no aggressive acidity, but balance instead, cooked fruit, a touch of hazelnut and a salty, almost chalky texture that lingers longer than you'd expect after the first sip.
