Forget-Brimont

Forget-Brimont

I've tasted 6 champagnes from Forget-Brimont -- and the range is impressive. From Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs to Rosé de Saignée to Brut Nature: This house shows that it masters different styles at a high level. Access to top-tier sites at Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims and in the Aube gives Forget-Brimont a huge toolkit.

Terroir and Location

The sites span the entire Champagne region: Grand Cru parcels on the Côte des Blancs for mineral Chardonnay, Premier Cru sites on the Montagne de Reims for structured Pinot Noir, and parcels in the Aube for warmer, riper base wines. This diversity explains the remarkable breadth in their range.

Philosophy and Style

Forget-Brimont makes champagnes that don't hide behind a single stylistic box. The range extends from buttery-full to tight-mineral, from rosé intensity to Blanc de Blancs elegance. What connects all the cuvées: artisanal care and the will to let the terroir speak. The oak barrel use for the Grand Cru's dosage is an interesting detail that shows how obsessively detailed the work is here.

The Range

Six cuvées that cover the entire spectrum of Champagne. From entry-level Brut to prestige cuvée, everything is represented.

The Cuvées in Detail

Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru

Extremely complex: fresh butter, brioche and fine smoky-woody accents. On the palate harmonious and expansive with a long, toasted finish. The buttery fullness is balanced by chalky precision. Five years on lees and the special oak barrel dosage give the champagne a unique texture. This is Grand Cru that deserves its name.

Type: Rosé | Grape Varieties: Chardonnay

Rosé de Saignée

Bold, substantial rosé with aromas of pomegranate, currant and peppery spice. Tart freshness and deep fruit with wine-like structure. 100% Pinot Noir through Saignée method -- this isn't a friendly aperitif rosé, but a serious wine with structure and hints of tannin.

My tip: With grilled lamb with rosemary or a bold ratatouille.

Type: Rosé | Vintage: 2018 | Grape Varieties: Pinot Noir

Brut Nature

Tight and precise with yellow fruits, citrus and a light chalky line, plus darker spice from the two Pinots. Direct, straightforward expression of Montagne de Reims without a sweet finish. The 2019 vintage gives the wine a nice balance between youth and maturity.

Type: Brut Nature | Vintage: 2019 | Grape Varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier

Vintage 2013

Ripe stone fruit with apricot and peach in a clear, crisp style. Plus almonds, hazelnuts and a touch of spicy chalk minerality. The cool 2013 vintage shows itself elegant and structured -- not a heavy, opulent champagne, but a wine with finesse and length.

Type: Prestige Cuvée | Vintage: 2013 | Grape Varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir

Blanc de Noirs 2018 Premier Cru

Powerful, but not heavy with lively acidity. Ripe apples, yellow plums, dried orange and toasted hazelnuts, carried by a fine, precise mousse. 100% Pinot Noir, 52 months on lees, Extra Brut -- this is a serious Blanc de Noirs with Premier Cru depth.

Compared to the Brut Nature, the Blanc de Noirs is more focused and powerful -- a champagne for Pinot Noir lovers.

Type: Blanc de Noirs | Vintage: 2018 | Grape Varieties: Pinot Noir

Brut Terroir

The approachable entry point. Green apple, white flowers and a touch of brioche. Fine, creamy perlage and pleasantly clear acidity. A classic, fresh and balanced Brut that shows Forget-Brimont delivers solid quality even at the entry level.

Type: Brut | Grape Varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier

What makes Forget-Brimont special?

The breadth while maintaining consistently high quality. Six cuvées, six different styles, and none of them disappoints. Particularly the Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru with its oak barrel dosage and the Rosé de Saignée show a house that's willing to go its own way.
