Piper-Heidsieck

Piper-Heidsieck

Piper-Heidsieck is a Grande Marque from Reims, founded in 1785. Headquarters on Boulevard Henri Vasnier, currently led by Chef de Cave Émilien Boutillat. The Maison is B-Corp certified and operates as a Négociant-Manipulant with international presence.

History

The Maison was founded in 1785 and has been producing champagne continuously since then. Over the past 240 years, Piper-Heidsieck has established itself as a mainstay among the Reims houses, though details about milestones and ownership changes are not further documented in the available data.

Vinification

Under Émilien Boutillat, the Maison has refined its style: precision over fullness, longer aging periods, higher reserve wine percentages, and reduced Dosage. Malolactic fermentation is blocked – at least documented for the Vintage Cuvée 2014 – to preserve freshness and tension. Wood is used in part for reserve wines, especially in the Essentiel series. Dosage ranges between 4 and 10 g/l, depending on the Cuvée. One detail that Boutillat consistently implements: disgorgement date on the back label, for maximum transparency.
