Robert Allait — The Quiet Master from the Vallée de la Marne

A House You Need to Know

Robert Allait is one of those winemakers you won't find on the map of big names — and that's exactly what makes him so special. In Villers-sous-Châtillon, right in the heart of the Vallée de la Marne, the Allait family tends to their parcels with a dedication you can taste in every glass.

Robert Allait is the house I've had in my glass most often. That's no coincidence. Once you've had an Allait, you come back.

The Philosophy

The Vallée de la Marne is Pinot Meunier country. While other winemakers dismiss this grape variety as "third choice," Robert Allait has understood what Meunier can really do: fruit, approachability, and a silky-round texture that Chardonnay and Pinot Noir can't deliver in this abundance.

Allait's champagnes aren't intellectual exercises. They're made to be drunk — with joy, without pretension. The price-to-quality ratio is consistently outstanding.

The Cuvées in Detail

Sublimis 2021

The Sublimis is one of my favorite Cuvées from Allait — a Blanc de Blancs that shows Chardonnay can achieve great things in the Vallée de la Marne too.

Le Mont de Reuil 2016

The Le Mont de Reuil is Allait's single-vineyard champagne — Brut Nature, uncompromising, straight from the vineyard to the glass. The 2016 vintage gives it additional depth and structure.

Solera RP-R

Allait's Solera series works with the Réserve Perpétuelle — a solera system where part of the wine is removed each year and replaced with new wine. The RP-R is the rosé version.

Solera RP-B

The counterpart in blanc — the Solera reserve as a white champagne. Extra Brut, multilayered, with a complexity you usually only find at significantly more expensive houses.

Prestige Rosé

Allait's Prestige line in rosé. Focused, structured, with character.

Pinot Chromie — Cœur de Cuvée

A Brut from the heart of the pressing (Cœur de Cuvée) — only the purest, finest must. 100% Pinot Noir.

Rosé de Saignée

Allait's rosé champagne has a special method. Through the Saignée method, it's more intense and vinous than an Assemblage rosé.
