Champagne H. Blin – Cooperative from Vincelles

Champagne H. Blin is a Union de Vignerons from Vincelles in the Vallée de la Marne. Founded in 1947 by Henri Blin and 28 other growers, the cooperative now manages 105 hectares of vineyard area. The president is Simon Blin.

History

In 1947, Henri Blin and 28 vignerons from Vincelles joined forces to produce champagne together. The Union de Vignerons emerged in the post-war period as a cooperative model that gave participating growers access to cellar technology, marketing, and larger production scale. Since then, the house has grown continuously and expanded its commitment to quality and sustainability. Today, Simon Blin leads the cooperative.

Vignoble & Soil

The 105 hectares of vineyard area are located in Vincelles and surrounding villages of the Vallée de la Marne. Meunier is the dominant grape variety and shapes the identity of the house. The exact grape variety distribution across the entire vignoble is not communicated in detail, but the Meunier portion is clearly leading, complemented by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Viticulture & Sustainability

H. Blin follows viticulture raisonnée with a clear sustainability focus. 80% of the parcels are classified as either VDC (Viticulture Durable en Champagne) or HVE 3 (Haute Valeur Environnementale). 10 hectares are farmed using certified organic agriculture (AB, FR-BIO-10). The house is ISO 14001 (environmental management) and ISO 22000 (food safety) certified and is working toward an RSE label (Responsabilité Sociétale des Entreprises) by 2025. Biodiversity, water management, waste reduction, and CO₂ reduction are central areas of action.

Vinification

Tirage takes place in March and April. The champagnes age on average 2 to 4 years in the cellars before being riddled and disgorged. After dégorgement, the bottles rest for at least 3 months before going to market. Malolactic fermentation is used selectively – some wines undergo it, others don't. The Chef de Cave orchestrates the assemblage to maintain the house style. Meunier is the heart of the cuvées.

The Cuvées in Detail

Brut Tradition

The entry-level cuvée and clear expression of Marne terroir. Fresh, fruit-forward, classically approachable: apple, citrus, pear, some yeasty bread notes. Meunier dominates at 70%, with 20% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir.
