Veuve Clicquot

I've tasted 9 champagnes from Veuve Clicquot — enough to get a good sense of their style. The house is based in the Aube / Côte des Bar, works with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and shows an impressive range in their portfolio.

Terroir and Location

The champagnes from Veuve Clicquot come from the Aube / Côte des Bar.

The Range

Veuve Clicquot offers 7 different Cuvées that I was able to try. In the lineup: Rosé, Brut Nature, vintage champagnes. The range shows that they don't just master one style, but cover the entire spectrum of Champagne.

The Cuvées in Detail

Yellow Label Brut

Tasted 2x. Highlights: anniversary, uncomplicated enjoyment, emotional moment. Highlights: classic, Brut.

Brut Yellow Label

Tasted 2x. A fruity, powerful and approachable champagne that works as an uncomplicated companion for relaxed movie nights. Highlights: fruity, powerful, approachable, Pinot Noir dominant. An elegant champagne with aromas of white fruits like peach and pear, complemented by subtle vanilla and brioche notes. Fresh and full-bodied, ideal as an aperitif. A pleasant, reliable everyday champagne, but it lacks structure and depth. With aromatic dishes featuring roasted flavors, spice and heat, it gets lost. Highlights: reliable, everyday champagne, little structure, little depth.

Vintage 2015

Clean and structured with typical VC creaminess that doesn't overwhelm. Slightly riper, brioche-like undertone that particularly harmonizes with seafood like lobster and scallops. Highlights: taut, creamy, elegant, brioche-like.

Type: Millésimé | Vintage: 2015 | Grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier

Rosé

Fruit-forward rosé with notes of strawberries, raspberries, sour cherries and a hint of brioche. Charming, lively and approachable in style. Highlights: strawberries, raspberries, brioche, lively.

Type: Rosé | Grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier

Rich

A sweet Doux champagne with 60 g/l Dosage that comes across as very sweet on its own, but shows surprising freshness and balance when paired with desserts. Highlights: Doux style, 60 g/l Dosage, suitable for food pairing, sweet-fruity.

Type: Brut Nature

Brut

A fresh, approachable champagne with notes of apple, pear and some brioche. Pleasant acidity, versatile and uncomplicated. Highlights: apple, pear, brioche, fresh.
