Perrier-Jouët

Perrier-Jouët — Chardonnay Focus Since 1811

Perrier-Jouët is a Négociant-Manipulant maison in Épernay, founded in 1811 by Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose-Adélaïde Jouët. The two were not only winemakers but also renowned botanists and horticultural artists. Today the maison is led by César Giron as Président-Directeur-Général. Since October 2020, Séverine Frerson has been the eighth Chef de Cave — the first woman in this position.

History

Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose-Adélaïde Jouët laid the foundation for the maison in 1811 and began cultivating vineyards in the Côte des Blancs that same year — with a clear focus on Chardonnay. This grape variety has been the house's central signature ever since.

In 2017, the historic Maison Belle Époque in Épernay was restored in the original Art Nouveau style. A year later, Hervé Deschamps, longtime Chef de Cave, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the CSWWC Gala Dinner in October 2018. In October 2020, Séverine Frerson took over cellar management and continued the Chardonnay tradition.

Vignoble & Soil

The vineyards are located in the Côte des Blancs, on chalk soil — the white craie that is characteristic of this region. Perrier-Jouët has even translated this subsoil into their packaging design: The white Ecobox evokes the chalk of the Champagne subsoil.

Chardonnay is the defining grape variety of the maison; exact hectare numbers and grape variety distribution are not documented.

Viticulture & Sustainability

The maison has worked with a nature-inspired philosophy since its founding, which is reflected in the vineyards and in the design. Sustainability commitments include eco-designed packaging like the Ecobox, which combines material reduction and environmental awareness.

Vinification

Perrier-Jouët's style is floral, delicate and Chardonnay-focused. The connection between art and nature has run through the house's philosophy since its founding. The dosage is around 8–9 g/l for the Grand Brut. Details on vinification methods — stainless steel, wood, malolactic — are not verified.
