Champagne Charles Dufour

Champagne Charles Dufour

Charles Dufour is one of the natural wine-oriented producers of the Côte des Bar. Coming from a winegrowing family in the Aube, he lives and works in Landreville in the southern Champagne, where he has been farming his vines organically since 2010.

Vineyard & Style

The vineyards are located on the classic Kimméridgien limestone soils of the Côte des Bar, interspersed with heavier clay-marls, which gives the wines both balance and power. The approach is decidedly purist: hand work, indigenous yeasts, no enrichment, and a consistent pursuit of purity, with both primary and malolactic fermentation using native microorganisms.

The Cuvées

The signature is the Bulles de Comptoir series, numbered (#8, #11, #13 …) and usually an assemblage of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc. It's also an art project: for each release, a different artist designs the label.
