Champagne De Sousa

Champagne De Sousa — Biodynamics in Avize

Champagne De Sousa is a Récoltant-Manipulant from Avize, a Grand Cru village on the Côte des Blancs. The maison is led by Charlotte De Sousa. The champagne house is located at 12 Place Léon Bourgeois, 51190 Avize.

De Sousa farms parcels in Avize and other sites across the Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims, and Vallée de la Marne. The maison is certified organic and biodynamic (AB and Biodynamie) and uses horses in the vineyard.

Viticulture & Sustainability

De Sousa is certified AB and Biodynamie. In the vineyard, travail équin is employed — horses replace tractors on selected parcels. The biodynamic approach shows in their work with natural preparations and the avoidance of synthetic treatments.

Vinification

De Sousa works with spontaneous fermentation and ages part of the wines in wood. The cuvées mature for at least 24 months on lees. The assemblage philosophy combines Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs, Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims, and Pinot Meunier from the Vallée de la Marne — terroir character from different Champagne regions in one bottle.

The Cuvées in Detail

Chemin des Terroirs — Brut

Assemblage of the three Champagne regions: Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs, Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims, Pinot Meunier from the Vallée de la Marne. Spontaneously fermented, partially aged in wood. Fresh citrus fruit, fine brioche notes, lightly smoky wood spice, crisp minerality — classic De Sousa style.
