Champagne Haton & Filles — Five Generations in Damery
Champagne Haton & Filles is a Récoltant-Manipulant house from Damery in the Vallée de la Marne. Founded in 1928 by Eugène Haton and his son Octave Haton, the house is now run by Philippe Haton together with his wife Isabelle and their two daughters Élodie and Ophélie — the fifth generation since 2017. With the daughters joining the business, the house changed its name: Champagne Haton et Fils became Haton et Filles.
History
In 1928, Eugène Haton and his son Octave laid the foundation for the house in Damery. In the third generation, René Haton, grandson of the founder, took the helm. Starting in 1983, he significantly expanded the marketing of Champagne Haton et Fils — with strong communication skills and business acumen, he sharpened the house's profile.
2017 marks the generational transition to the fifth generation: Philippe Haton's daughters Élodie and Ophélie join the family business. With them, the house also makes the name change from "et Fils" to "et Filles" — a visible signal for the feminine future of the house.
Vinification
Philippe Haton controls the entire champagne process from vineyard care to the long cellar work. Each cuvée is developed under his supervision as an individual piece — the philosophy is control and craftsmanship across all steps.
The Cuvées in Detail
Carte Blanche
Round, fruit-forward champagne with lively acidity and pleasant fullness. The focus on Pinot Meunier gives the cuvée an accessible, easy-drinking character — clearly oriented toward fruit.
100% Pinot Meunier · 10 g/l · Vallée de la Marne
Cadence (René Haton)
Fresh with citrus notes and green apple, plus a touch of brioche. On the palate, round and balanced, fine perlage. The dosage is listed as 9 g/l on the data sheet, the label says 11 g/l — the actual value remains unclear.
75% Pinot Meunier, 25% Chardonnay · 9 g/l (data sheet) · Vallée de la Marne
Solo de Meunier
Varietal Pinot Meunier, available in both Brut and Demi-sec. The house focuses entirely on the fruit and accessibility of this grape variety with this cuvée.
100% Pinot Meunier
Sonate de Chardonnay
Varietal Chardonnay, made as Brut. The musical naming convention — Sonate, Solo, Cadence, L'Octave — runs through the product range.
100% Chardonnay
Other Cuvées
The house also produces Agathe Rosé, Accord de Cépages, René Haton 1er Cru (with Premier Cru grapes), L'Octave René Haton and a Ratafia de Champagne — a sweet aperitif made from must and marc, which is not a champagne.
