Champagne Vauversin — Grand Cru Chardonnay from Oger

Champagne Vauversin is a vigneron house from Oger in the Côte des Blancs, run by Laurent Vauversin. The family farms Grand Cru sites in Oger and Avize — exclusively Chardonnay. Laurent describes himself as a "Vigneron passionné par ses vignes, explorateur de biodiversité". Four generations are visible on the house website: Fernand, François, Bruno and now Laurent.

The address is officially in Blancs-Coteaux, but the work takes place in the Grand Cru villages of Oger and Avize.

Vignoble & Soil

The vines are in Oger and Avize, both Grand Cru classified. The entire vignoble is 100% Chardonnay. The soil signature is chalk — calcareous-mineral, stored in the famous Crayères layers. The cuvée "Les Crayères" carries the name of this chalky underground structure directly in the title.

Viticulture & Sustainability

Laurent Vauversin works organically and sees himself as a researcher when it comes to biodiversity in the vineyard. The vines are farmed without synthetic treatments; the exact certification is still open.

Vinification

The vinification follows a clear line: time, terroir and finesse. Or d'Âge is aged in oak barrels and comes from a Réserve Perpétuelle — vinified without malolactic fermentation. The dosage ranges from 0 to 5 g/l: Brut Nature for Or d'Âge, Extra Brut for Orpair, Zero Dosage for Les Crayères. All cuvées age for several years on the lees.

The Cuvées in Detail

Orpair — Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Extra Brut

Fruity, lively entry with creamy texture and silky mousse. Although technically Extra Brut, the natural fruitiness seems almost sweet and charming. Several years of lees aging provide depth without overwhelming the freshness. Base 2019, from Oger Grand Cru.

Les Crayères — Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Zero Dosage

Single-vineyard champagne from a single site in Oger. Concentrated, mineral, chalky-salty — the chalk is present not just in the name. Surprising smoky tobacco note complements the intense minerality. Zero Dosage lets the terroir speak unvarnished. Base 2020.

Or d'Âge — Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut Nature

Mature, complex champagne from Réserve Perpétuelle, base 2019. Aged in oak barrels, vinified without malolactic fermentation. Citrus peel, roasted almonds, brioche — chalky-salty with oxidative depth. Calm, concentrated, uncompromising. Brut Nature.
