G.H. Mumm

G.H. Mumm — Pinot Noir from Reims since 1827

G.H. Mumm is a Négociant-Maison from Reims, founded in 1827 by Georges Hermann Mumm. The maison manages 218 hectares of estate vineyards in some of the finest terroirs of Champagne and follows the motto "Only the Best" – with a clear focus on Pinot Noir, structure, and freshness. Since 2024, Yann Munier has been Chef de Caves.

History

Georges Hermann Mumm founded the maison in 1827 in Reims. It quickly established itself as one of the great champagne houses and built a clear identity around powerful, structured cuvées over nearly two centuries.

In 1952, Mumm launched the first Cordon Rosé cuvée, which was later served at the Elysée Palace. Six years later, in 1958, Japanese-French painter Léonard Foujita designed the rose on the rosé capsule – a sign of friendship with René Lalou, who was president of the maison for over 30 years.

In 2024, Yann Munier took over the position of Chef de Caves. In 2025, Mumm opened its doors for the first time for European Heritage Days. In 2026, the iconic Cordon Rouge received a new design in collaboration with Anamorphée Studio – the red band remains directly engraved into the bottle, a signature for 150 years.

Vignoble & Terroir

G.H. Mumm manages 218 hectares in some of the finest sites in Champagne. Including Grand-Cru parcels in Verzenay (Montagne de Reims) and Cramant (Côte des Blancs), which are specifically assembled for the RSRV line. The vineyards are located in the area around Reims and the Montagne de Reims.

Vinification

Mumm works according to the principle "House of Pinot Noir Champagne": Pinot Noir forms the backbone of the assemblage, supported by Chardonnay and Meunier. The philosophy aims for structure, complexity, freshness, and fruitiness. The RSRV line represents mature, precise champagne craftsmanship – the Cuvée 4.5, for example, is dosed at around 6 g/l and shows a clear mineral-saline signature.
