Champagne Boonen – Meunier & Pinot Noir from the Cirque de Festigny

Champagne Boonen – Meunier & Pinot Noir from the Cirque de Festigny

Champagne Boonen is a Récoltant-Manipulant from Festigny in the Vallée de la Marne. The estate is run by Julie and Julien Boonen, who farm their parcels in the special terroir of the Cirque de Festigny on the Rive Gauche. Their approach is purist: sustainable farming, selective parcel work, clean dosages, and the will to let the terroir speak.

Vignoble & Soil

The vines are planted in Festigny, a village on the left side of the Marne. The Cirque de Festigny – a natural amphitheater setting – shapes the identity of the wines: small, characterful parcels with their own microclimate. The grape variety distribution isn't publicly documented, but the two main cuvées show the focus: Meunier and Pinot Noir in pure form.

Viticulture & Sustainability

Julien Boonen farms his parcels sustainably and selectively. The approach is artisanal: small plots, work with an eye for detail, without certification labels, but with a clear commitment to long-term soil care and natural winemaking.

Vinification

The philosophy is purist. Boonen lets the terroir take center stage, works with low dosages, and focuses on substance over gimmicks. With Le Cirque, the dosage is 2.5 g/l Extra Brut – a level that leaves room for Meunier's spicy fruit without masking the profile.

The Cuvées in Detail

Le Cirque – Extra Brut (100% Meunier)

Single-varietal Meunier from the Cirque de Festigny on the Rive Gauche. Expressive, spicy, slightly untamed – surprisingly focused for a Meunier without Pinot support. Vibrant fruit with spicy grip, not smooth, not polished, but full of character. A champagne that polarizes and is interesting precisely for that reason.

100% Meunier · 2.5 g/l Extra Brut · Vallée de la Marne, Rive Gauche – Cirque de Festigny

CPTS (Champagne des Petites Terroirs Sélectionnés) – Blanc de Noirs (100% Pinot Noir)

Purist Blanc de Noirs from small, selected parcels. Fine fruit, clean structure, slightly salty, slightly spicy. The mousse is fine, the grip mineral. A champagne that works solo – or with mild cheese, nuts, fresh baguette. Not a wine for show, but for the moment.
