Champagne Gruet – Récoltant-Manipulant in Buxeuil since 1670

Champagne Gruet is a Récoltant-Manipulant house from Buxeuil in the Côte des Bar (Aube). The family has been established in Buxeuil since 1670 – the historic parcels "Bas Gruet" and "Sur Gruet" still bear the family name today. Since 1975, Claude Gruet has been producing his own champagne cuvées, and today he works together with his son Pierre-Charles Gruet.

History

The Gruet family settled in Buxeuil in 1670 and established the parcels "Bas Gruet" and "Sur Gruet", which are still cultivated today. Nearly 300 years later, in 1975, Claude Gruet produced his first champagne cuvées, laying the foundation for today's house.

In 2020, the house opened a new reception and seminar room with 230 square meters and space for 70 people. The rooms integrate traditional cellars, oak barrels, and a historic press from 1920.

Vignoble & Soil

The house cultivates vineyard plots in Buxeuil, including the historic parcels "Bas Gruet" and "Sur Gruet". The grape variety spectrum includes Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and the rare varieties Pinot Blanc, Arbane and Petit Meslier – the percentage distribution is not documented.

The soils in Buxeuil are clay-limestone soils, which give the wines a particularly fruit-forward character.

Vinification

Gruet uses oak barrels in vinification – for example, for the red wine component in the rosé. The philosophy combines modern technology with respect for tradition and the Méthode Champenoise. Time and patience are central principles: The Grande Réserve ages 36 months in the cellar before being disgorged.
